We are excited to announce a wonderful opportunity for registered AYSO players in 12U and under to be part of the Santa Classic, an all-star soccer game played by the best senior players from across the entire region. The North plays the South, and there is a boys and a girls game. Normally this game is played in November, after the varsity soccer season concludes – but COVID forced a cancelation.
The game has been rescheduled for April, and The Tribune-Democrat, which presents the game, approached us with the idea of getting AYSO involved. There will be a FREE clinic (Friday, April 16 ) for 12U divisions and under, run by coaches and the high school players – and then a parade on game day (Saturday, April 17) with youth players accompanying all-star players onto the field.
Many all-star players have roots in AYSO so we see this as an awesome combination. To participate:
- Players must be registered for the spring 2021 season in the 12U and under division.
- We would love to have players in uniform so if possible, please have them wear this year or another year’s jersey.
- Register your player to participate in the clinic at: http://app.gjayso.org/santa/ . The clinic is free, but we need to know who plans to take part.
The schedule is as follows:
- Friday, April 16: Youth AYSO soccer clinic (12U and under), 5-7 p.m., at Trojan Stadium (at Greater Johnstown High School).
- Saturday, April 17: Santa Fund Soccer Classic high school all-star event at Trojan Stadium in Johnstown.
- Girls game at 3 p.m.
- Boys game at 5:30 p.m.
- Games to be preceded by parade of AYSO youth players (approx. 2:45 p.m.)
Admission to the all-star game is free. However, the event is a fundraiser for the Santa Fund, which is the Tribune-Democrat’s fund to help area families who cannot afford Christmas presents for their kids, and monetary donations will be collected. We encourage you to give generously!
